Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Unsigned, and addressee unlisted. Author may be Walter Livingston, writing about himself in the third person. Addressee may be Henry Knox; see his response at GLC02437.04061. Writes, "Mr. Walter Livingston cannot permit general Knox to be disappointed in not getting the home on account of the Rent. Mr. Livingston will build the stable, Paint and paper the second & third stories and general Knox shall have the House at the price he supposed he had engaged it on Wednesday last viz. L260 specie and taxes."
