Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Received his last letter regarding Lott's son. Writes that he will always be happy to help any member of Lott's family, but does not know of any vacant position at present. Will let him know if any position becomes available in which Lott's "sons and the publics interest should unite, and I should have any influence in the appointment." Docketed by Knox.
