Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Appears to be a copy of GLC02437.04373. Note to the cashier of a bank to "Pay to the honorable Alexander Hamilton or order, two thousand five hundred dollars, being for public service, and which for the present is to be considered as part of the twenty thousand dollars agreed to be loaned by the bank in pursuance of the act of Congress of the 20th of August 1789." This copy does not, however, have notes signed by Alexander Hamilton, William Duer, and Samuel Osgood.
