Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Wishes Duer a happy new year and relays information he heard from Major [Winthrop] Sargent. Sargent reports that the bearer, from the Ohio area,indicates trouble with a military provisions agreement. Knox informs Duer to take immediate measures to "remedy any evils" that may have occured. Knox's working draft. Noted as private. Docket is written in Knox's hand.
