Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Suggests that in the interest of the public good that he and Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton should work with [William] Duer of New York "who is interested in the contract for supplying the troops [on the Frontiers]." Express his concern over some "unsettled business" between Duer and Walker which might make it difficult to proceed. Hopes Walker can assure that Duer will assist this process.
