Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses Knox's situation with [William] Duer and Madam de Leval over land negotiations. States Duer has given him Knox's obligation to convey to Duer a certain proposition on a township. Asks that Knox informs him when he is ready to make the final conveyance. Also notes Leval's concern over the Committee delaying the meeting regarding her land claims. Says if this happens some of the Germans who Leval has sold land to plan on attending the meeting. Date taken from docket. "Free" stamped on address leaf with no signature.
