Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses ongoing negotiations concerning Duer's land shares. States he expects Duer "will make a full & explicit offer" to [Théophile] Cazenove's offer. Believes if Duer's offer is as "reasonable" as he presumes it will be he should receive an answer immediately. In postscript states, "enclosed to Shaw and Randall and [illegible] to them to deliver in paper and to [obtain] an answer."
