Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Tells Knox that President Washington will be at his Philadelphia house tomorrow at 9. Expects Knox to be there. Wants Knox to notify Attorney General Edmund Randolph.

Dandridge was Martha Washington's nephew. He joined Washington's staff in 1791 and became his personal secretary after Tobias Lear resigned in 1793.
