Addressed to "My Best and dearest friend." Reports that the day she left Henry, she arrived in New York to a great reception. Says her enjoyment is clouded by her fear Henry will be exposed to the yellow fever. Expresses displeasure at the thought of their continued separation. Reports that "an express arrived here yesterday for Dr. Stevens to attend Colo. Hamilton supposed in the yellow fever." Tells him to remember his promise not to return to Philadelphia. Asks about Augusta (possibly Augusta Dearborn, daughter of Henry Dearborn). "Free" stamped on address leaf with no signature.

My Best and dearest friend
On the day that you left me I came to this place and have great reason to be pleased with my reception we are all perfectly well but all my enjoyments are clouded by the possibility of your being exposed added to the ever regretted evil of separation I have some hopes to hear from you this day but dare not rely too much
An express arrived here yesterday for Dr Stevens to attend Colo Hamilton supposed in the yellow fever - I should be more alarmed at this were it not that I think it a return of his [bilious] [illegible] - but for my sake and that of your helpless family do not forget your repeated promise not to go to town -
Pray tell me all that relates to Augusta I will write you again on Monday before which time I shall certainly hear of you and her
May God bless and preserve you
