Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Will mention his application to the Secretary of the Treasury, whose department handles the purchasing of supplies. Hoffman had offered supplies the government was to send to the Six Nations (see GLC02437.06024). Will also mentions Hoffman's application if the government decides to build frigates in New York. Wants Hoffman to check on his brother William who is "labouring under a depression of Spirits" in New York. Asks that William be sent on to Philadelphia. Wants Hoffman to send an update as well.
