Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs Knox he did not receive his note or Mr. Swan's letter until last Saturday. Explains he is unable to make a trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania unless it is absolutely necessary. Requests Knox to mention his name to an unnamed minister if an opportunity presents itself. Discusses going to the bank to see about a $2000 discount. "Free" stamped on address leaf with no signature.
