Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs Knox he sails for London in two days. Requests Knox to notify Knox's friends in London of his visit. Mentions not being opposed to public employment in Europe and states, "should any of your friends have any private negotiations in that Country, I shall be in a situation to attend to them."
