Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Encloses a letter (not included) regarding the eastern lands. Says he believes the land could be sold to settlers from half a dollar to a dollar an acre. States Mr. Timothy Green can provide further information on the lands when he is in town. Offers to superintend the sale and settlement of the tract of land owned by Knox and Mr. William Bingham. "Free" stamped on address leaf with no signature.
