Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Two parts. First part dated 2 February 1796. Asks Knox to help him with obtaining the final settlement for some business deal with [Samuel] Ogden. Also asks about Knox's brother, William. Second part dated 5 April 1797. Asks Knox to send the balance of an account to him. Noted as a copy.
