Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes to make sure Vose is keeping up with the efforts to apprehend Samuel Ely and the other insurgents threatening to destroy land and property belonging to Knox in Maine. Reports that the Massachusetts government has taken steps to protect Knox's property. Provides information on Ely's background and plans. Hopes not to have to come to Maine until April.
