Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Marked "copy." Writes that because he was so deeply touched by Parker's recent letter, he wants to provide Parker with any information he has respecting Samuel Ely's group of insurgents in his region. Describes a town meeting about whether to support Ely. Relates how different towns in the region plan to handle Ely's claims that the residents own the towns and Knox does not. Includes a transcript of a resolution from Davistown (possibly present day Liberty, Maine).
