Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Hopes Knox will excuse him for writing about his own business endeavors since he left Knox's service. Writes that when he arrived in Boston, General [Henry] Jackson was unable to pay a bill, leaving him in need of money; he also noticed that the rents were much higher. Would appreciate Knox hiring him for any business he might have in Boston.
