Expresses his happiness on receiving Francis's letter and encourages him in his studies. Writes that Francis's mother, Sarah Lyons, and his sister Harriet are doing well and describes the weather in India. Sends his love to his other step-son Thomas and to Henry Knox and his family.

B. Beaumez, the husband of Sarah Lyons Flucker Beaumez, is most likely Bon-Albert Briois de Beaumez (also spelled "Beaumetz"), a travelling companion of Talleyrand and former President of the French National Constituent Assembly.
