Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Knox writes that the lots Pendleton and others purchased two years ago are completed and Knox asks that now pay for them. Knox says "you will execute mortgage deeds to me as a collateral securely for the notes of hand you will give for the amount." Knox hopes to finish this quickly. There are seven addressees on this document including William Pendleton, four of whom bear the name Pendleton.
