Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Gray tells Knox, "On application to General Lincoln, he informs me that Mrs. Knox is Proprietor in her own right of one fifth of the land you conveyed to Mrs. Waldo." Gray has enclosed "a deed...to be executed by Mrs. Knox and yourself and acknowledged, which you will please to transmit to Mr. Peirce, who will deliver me the other deed and this also on receiving Mrs. Waldo's
