Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses a mortgage he drew up for Mr. [Thomas?] Winthrop (likely for land in Maine). Notes the corrections in terminology that he would like Knox to change on the indenture. A note from William Sullivan written at the bottom of the letter states Knox will undoubtedly agree to the above request.
