Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Joy mentions he is desirous to have a description of the land he purchased from Knox. Notes he would like as detailed of a description on the lands as possible. Says he would like the information to be "backed" by Knox's "declaration" and would like a copy of his deed. Also expresses his dread about a day of reckoning approaching.
