Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses a complicated land deal involving Nathaniel Knight and a Mr. Hartie. Requests Knox gives the lot to Knight for under $4 per acre. Also advises Knox on a different land deal concerning Joel Rich. Recommends Knox not grant Rich his wishes until he hears from the other parties involved.
