Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

First page signed by John Gleason, David [Fales] and Henry Knox. Page two includes a note signed by Samuel Russell and Benjamin Russell. Appears to be a note for a lot of land in Hancock Country, Maine. The note gives Benjamin Russell 100 acres of land in return for $363.30 plus interest to be paid to Henry Knox over three years.
