Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Noted as a copy. Discusses the lots, boundaries, and legal issues involving the settlers in Bangor, Maine. Encloses (not included) a plan for Bangor, Main that shows the settlers lots before 17 February, 1798 along with a list of names of the present owners. "Honerable Peleg Coffin" is noted at the bottom of the letter.
