Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes on behalf of a committee appointed by German settlers living on his land (presumably in Maine). Asks to schedule a meeting between the committee Knox either at court or at Knox's "seat," as one of the committee members is on a jury and cannot take a leave of absence.
