Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes that Captain [Edward] Kelleran arrived today on board his ship, without having sold any of Knox's lime en route from Thomaston. However, Robins has arranged a deal with a Mr. Cotting for him to buy a large amount of the lime, and he relates the details of the arrangement and asks what Knox thinks.
