Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses a land sale between Knox, General [Henry] Jackson and General [Benjamin] Lincoln on the one part, and a General Derby on the other. Declares that Jackson's and Lincoln's deeds have been executed, but Davis has found a discrepancy in the description of the land. Explains several errors he has found in the paperwork, and asks Knox to send a better description of the land he is selling.
