Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Signed by B. Hall of Castine, Maine, likely Bradshaw Hall, the Register of Deeds for that town. Writes that he has received Knox's packet of deeds and will send them back by mail by the next post. Asks several questions regarding Knox's other instructions and asks for clarification (see GLC02437.07991 for Knox's letter).
