Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Indenture between Lucy Knox, as "widow and executrix" of Henry Knox's estate, and Thomas Vose. Agreement relates to the Knox limeworks; apparently Lucy agrees to let Vose use the limeworks and manufacture and sell a particular portion of the lime. Signed by Lucy Knox and Thomas Vose, as well as by Ebenezer Thatcher and [Henry Jackson] Knox as witnesses.
