Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Mentions that pay is current up to 31 March, although no year is given. Pay was noted as $55,000. Some other expenses include: $55,000 toward bounties, $35,000 to the Quartermaster's Department, $4,000 to the Hospital Department, and $22,000 to the Indian Department.
