Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

An unknown author, writing on behalf of David Palairet, Jr., declares that Palairet apologizes for missing Waldo's visit and encloses a letter for him to read (not present). Mentions that his uncle has been made aware of Waldo's arrival in England and is anxious to discuss business with him.
