Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Requests Jameson notifies the inhabitants of "Medumcook" [Meduncook] that there will be a meeting at Jameson's house on the 20th for any who have business with the heirs of Brigadier Waldo or have taken up lands in the neighborhood. Written from "Medumcook" which is possibly present day Cushing, Maine.
