Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The citizens of Waldoborough petitioning for land they believe is owed them from thirty years earlier, due to an agreement with General Waldo when they first settled there. Also petitioning to not have to pay again for their current lands, due to complications with their land owners. Knox is also involved in this transaction. Signed by a number of the citizens of Waldoborough.
