Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

A list of questions regarding the Waldo patent, a large tract of land Knox inherited from his mother's father. The queries are written to Benjamin Hichborn. The questions regard his financial obligations and possible sale of the estate. An answer is written in next to each question, perhaps in Hichborn's hand.
