Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes to discuss a possible dispute over a piece of property he is interested in, and the related financial situation. Signed by either S. Waldo or I. Waldo. Letter has no recipient, but was likely written to Knox, since the author states "Mrs. W. presents her reards to you, Mrs. K, and family."
