Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Explaining why he has not yet sent documents Knox has requested. States it is because there is so much copying work to be done before the documents can be shipped, that it has taken some time. The third page appears to be a postscript, as discusses previous documents he has sent to Knox.

William Frost was the Register of deeds for the County of York, Massachusetts from 1786-1816.
