At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses the inheritance of the Waldo patent. Has failed in his attempt to find certain requested records related to inheritance of the Waldo patent. However gives a short history of Waldo patent and its ownership, and offers to provide other documents on the subject, which he lists.

Reuel Williams served in the Maine State Legislature and was later a United States Senator from Maine.
