Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Grants full power of attorney to Thomas Longman of Paternoster Row, London, to recover a bond from Hannah Harwood, one of the executors of the late Hannah Waldo Flucker's estate. Indicates that the bond was given to Francis Waldo in March 1774 by Thomas Flucker, his uncle (husband of Hannah Waldo Flucker). Bond is in the hand of Hannah Harwood.

Thomas and Hannah W. Flucker were Lucy Knox's parents. Thomas Longman operated the Longman company in Paternoster Row, which he had inherited from his uncle. Longman's company was known for its publication of Robinson Crusoe.
