Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Includes account information from 23 September 1772. Signed on verso by Crafts 23 December 1772, certifying that Flucker paid his account in full. Flucker paid Crafts to paint rooms, doors, and window frames.

Possibly refers to Colonel Thomas Crafts, Jr. Crafts was involved in the Boston Tea Party and was active in the American Revolution. Before joining the military, Crafts was educated in the painting trade.
