Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Colonel Butler recommends Noyes, of the First Connecticut Regiment, for a leave of absence until 15 April 1783. Directs his request to Major General Henry Knox.

Ancestral records indicate that Noyes served as Surgeon in Butler's 1st Connecticut regiment from 1778 to the close of the Revolutionary War. From that period, Noyes continued to live in Lyme until his death.
