Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Includes regimental expenses from December 1775 - February 1779. Pierce, Paymaster General, attests that Knox "produced vouchers... for the within sum of forty five thousand seven hundred forty five dollars received by him from the United States..." Signed by Pierce 1 July 1783.
