Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Same as previous (GLC02437.16.163). Draft in account with General Knox "[f]or his pay for the year 1783..." at the amount of $2,472. Includes a breakdown of the amount, consisting of actual salary per month, clothing account, and as "head of the Ordnance, while he receives the allowance as Major General in a Separate Department, during his Commd at West Point..." Noted as a "true copy." Watermarked.

Pierce was the Paymaster General of the United States Army.
