Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Starts by stating that he "means to have two Gardens" and describes where he wants them and their basic layout. Mentions that he would greatly like to have apples and pears. Writes that his family will not be able to travel this summer and that he would like to promote Vose to be the overseer, to "observe that everything is done in the best manner."
