Thanks James for his support and care of William Dundas (David's son) and offers the same courtesy to James's oldest son. Explains that their brother George will be leaving week because he obtained a position on a naval vessel. On the difficulty of obtaining such a post, he comments: "the influence which is necessary to be kept up in the House of Commons swallows up every thing & without a claim to that return, it is almost impossible to procure any appointment." Comments on the down side of the post.
Sir David Dundas, 1st Bart of Richmond, was a doctor who was appointed Sargent Surgeon to King George III in 1791.
James Dundas was a lawyer in Edinburgh, Scotland, and David's younger brother.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
