Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes to Brice, the Acting Pay Master General, to request pay according to his brevet rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Heavily docketed; the request is denied across docket. With signed endorsements by Brice dated 18 April 1865 indicating McParlin was not entitled to the pay. Written at the Headquarters of the Army of the Potomac, near Burks (Berke) Station, Virginia.
