Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Signed in text twice by Knox as "HK." Writes he is conveying property to "WB" (referring to William Bingham). Wants to make sure everything is clearly expressed so the "true intent and meaning" of the deal is known to all parties. Includes mention of Jean-Baptise de LaRoche and Madam Rosalie de Leval. Date is not listed, however, the majority of Knox's land dealings with the three parties mentioned above were in the years 1791-1796. Knox's working draft.
