Captain Ethan A. Jenks signs and completes docket information. Inventory includes bayonet scabbards, Enfield 57.40 Caliber Rifle Muskets, ammunition for the muskets, cartridge boxes, gun slings, and waist belts. This document has a heading at the top saying it is "Form No. 1.--(a.) For the use of Infantry and Heavy Artillery". The document lists the number of each item to be accounted for upon return of the Company, the same as is noted in 02750.432 and 02750.433. The print format is identical to 0270.433. This document is marked as a report for the following quarter as the previous documents, ending 30 June 1863. It appears to be a solely clerical report as there are no updates on weapons or ammunition being used in battle yet. The report is filed from a camp in Mississippi, the specific location is not disclosed.
Jenks served as Captain of Company "I," seventh regiment, Rhode Island Volunteers between 1862 and 1865. During the Civil War, Jenks' Regiment spent time in Rhode Island, Kentucky, and Virginia, participating in battles at Fredericksburg and Fort Sedgwick. Following the Civil War, Jenks returned to Rhode Island, becoming President of the Seventh Rhode Island Veterans Association and later serving as a deputy tax collector. Jenks was married to Sanondess Jenks (1835-1923) during and after the War. This collection contains various letters, military documents, deeds, and other items related to Jenks' life during and after the War. See location notes field for information on various locations.
