Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

He has recovered enough strength to write. Everyone had to be moved because it was deemed unsafe to stay where they are. Serano is very weak and he asked to be detailed to take care of him. To help with the move he gave Serano some whiskey. They were transported in ambulance wagons.
