Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Days have gone by, which I had taken my freedom to beseech your goodness to inform you about the sum which will lend charity to my nourishments to let my [illegible] know that I will not be abandoned, why will I not know to solve the issue about embark, once we do not have the guarantee your payment, pay all in the name of honor.
